Lead is a health topic, so we hold every page on LeadDetector to these rules.

Where our facts come from

  • Official sources first: the EPA, CDC, HUD, FDA, CPSC, NIH, NIOSH, ATSDR and state health and environmental agencies, and the regulations themselves.
  • Products: what a test kit or filter can do comes from its maker and, for filters, from the certifier’s listing (NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 for lead). We never call a filter certified for lead unless the listing says so.
  • Numbers: standards, limits and prices are quoted as the source publishes them, with the date we checked. If a figure is not published, we say so instead of estimating.

Health pages

Our health pages explain what official sources say. They never recommend treatments, supplements or home remedies, and they always point readers to a doctor, the local health department or Poison Control (1-800-222-1222).

Testing methods are kept separate

A paint swab is not a water test, and a home screening kit is not a laboratory result. Every guide says what each method is documented to test and what it cannot tell you.

Money and independence

Some links earn us a commission (see our affiliate disclosure). Commissions never decide what we recommend. Directory listings are free; any sponsored placement is clearly labeled as sponsored.

Corrections

Rules and products change. If you spot an error or an outdated figure, tell us and we will check it against the source and correct the page.
