LeadDetector is a guide to lead testing: lead paint, lead in water, household items, dust and soil; test kits, laboratories and certified lead professionals. It’s for US homeowners, renters, parents and landlords; renovators; buyers of older homes.
Who runs LeadDetector
LeadDetector is published by Staricon, a small publishing company that runs guides on specific topics. Every guide is researched from official sources (the EPA, CDC, HUD, FDA, CPSC, NIH and state health and environmental agencies), accredited laboratories and the makers of test kits and filters. We list our sources for every page, check them again when rules change, and say plainly when something is not published or could not be confirmed.
How we choose products
- Real facts only. Specs and prices come from the maker or the retailer, and we say when something could not be confirmed.
- Safety first. We point out limits and safety basics and never recommend using a product outside the maker’s instructions.
- Honest picks. A product is never included because a brand paid for it. If something has drawbacks, we say so.
How LeadDetector is paid for
Some links are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend. Read our affiliate disclosure.
